Who is a person in my field that I admire?
Hi! Today I'm goig to talk about the person that I admire and she is Marie Maynard
Daly, she was the first African American woman to receive a Ph.D. in chemistry
in the United States.
Marie M. Daly was an American biochemist and she was
born on April 16, 1921, in Queens, New York. Her family was very important in
her studies because they believed in the power of education and when she was visited
her maternal grandparents, she always read about scientists in her grandfather's extensive library.
In 1994, Marie wnrolled in the Columbia University as a doctoral student of Chesmistry, here she studied how the body's chemicals help digest food ans she finished her doctorate in 1947.
In 1955, Daly returned to Columbia and later she was relocated to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University in New York, here she taught biochemistry courses. Daly's groundbreaking work helped clarify how the human body works.
She was dead in New Yor on October 28, 2003.
I really like her because she not only helped with her invetigations, she also championed efforts to get students of color enrolled in medical schools and graduate science programs. I think that she was and is an example of scientist who helps her people and who really tried hard to get what she wanted.

Hi, do you want impact the science like her?
